LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell track & field senior Ashlyn Ramos was named Bison of the Week on Monday after breaking the school record in the 5000. It's Ramos' third time earning the award this academic year after claiming it twice during the cross country season.
Ramos ran the event in 16:39.00 at Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invite Friday evening, eclipsing the previous top mark (16:47.79) set by Kate Scott in 2016. Ramos previously ranked sixth on Bucknell's all-time top 10 list with her 17:02.96 5000 time that she posted at the 2020 ECAC Championships.
The Sammamish, Wash. native is in the midst of an outstanding season, having already run the second-best 3000 time in school history (9:35.59) and the sixth-best mile time (4:54.54). Ramos also ranks second in the record books in the outdoor 5000 (16:23.75) and holds the school record in the 10k (34:04.76).
Ramos placed 28th among 58 finishers at Boston U., which included a host of elite runners. At the meet, Gabriela Debues-Stafford (14.31.38) and Elise Cranny (14.33.17) set the Canadian and American indoor 5000 records, respectively.
Bucknell is back at home this weekend to host the Bucknell Tune Up on Friday, Feb. 18.
