LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's water polo team will close its regular season over the weekend with a road game at Navy and two home games against Wagner and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday.
Saturday's contest at Navy at 3 p.m. will be streamed live at this link.
Saturday's contest at Navy at 3 p.m. will be streamed live at this link.
- Bucknell will enter the weekend after having dropped a narrow contest to No. 18 Fordham last weekend, 13-12.
- The Bison now stand at 12-13 on the season, with an 8-5 record in conference games this season.
- Bucknell currently holds the No. 4 spot in the MAWPC standings, and will look to move into the third spot currently held by Wagner (9-5).
- The third spot crucially holds a first-round "bye", and will avoid having to play twice on Friday in the opening round of the MAWPC Tournament while seeds 4-11 will all contest first-round games earlier in the day. George Washington and Fordham have both secured the top two seeds for the MAWPC Tournament.
- Head Coach John McBride enters the weekend just three wins away from his 200th career win for the program, which would make the 11th-year head coach just the second coach in program history to reach that mark along with Bucknell Hall-of-Famer Dick Russell.
- Bucknell found itself in an early deficit against the 18th-ranked Rams over the weekend, giving the home team a scare after Fordham jumped out to an 8-2 lead. The Bison pulled within 9-7 to close the third, and managed to get within one goal on multiple occasions in the fourth. However, the Bison couldn't complete the comeback against the Rams, who are unbeaten at 13-0 in MAWPC games this season.
- The Bison pulled within one, 13-12, with 1:12 to go on Andu Vlasceanu's fourth goal of the game, but Fordham held off a valiant Bucknell effort to secure the victory.
- The Bison are 2-1 against this weekend's opponents in the first round of games between the schools, taking wins over The Mount and Wagner while falling to Navy 10-9 in sudden-death overtime at Kinney Natatorium.
- Bucknell defeated MSM 12-8 on Saturday, October 15 in Emmitsburg, holding off a resilient MSM squad that took an 8-7 lead with 7:17 left in the game. The Bison ended that game with a 5-0 scoring run to secure the victory. The Bison were led by Aleksa Stefanovic and Hasan Mogultay, who scored three times each in the win. Senior Josh Yardley also added multiple goals for the Bison in the win.
- Bucknell will play Wagner for the second time at home this season after defeating the Seahawks 11-9 all the way back on Sunday, September 18 in the final game of the Bucknell Invitational. Bucknell once again used a late run to overturn a late close game, with Shay Gillearn's late third-quarter goal kickstarting a 4-0 run late to take an 11-8 lead and close the tournament with a win. Stefanovic scored five goals in the win.
- Sunday's game against the Seahawks will be a pivotal one, with Wagner one spot ahead of the Bison in the third spot with a 9-5 conference record.
- Sunday's game against the Seahawks at 2 p.m. will be Senior Day for the Orange and Blue, where seniors Josh Yardley, Andu Vlasceanu, Jack Lewis, Colby Paine, Will Gildea, and Adrien Touzot will all be recognized prior to the game.
