Bucknell Women at a Glance
• Bucknell is 5-1 (4-1 PL) heading into this weekend's home invitational. The Bison most recently hosted three Patriot League teams for the Bucknell Quad Meet, picking up wins over American (224-74) and Lafayette (252-48) while falling to Navy (97.5-202.5).
• Bucknell is now 35-4 (27-4 PL) in dual meets dating back to the 2018-19 campaign. Bucknell's four losses over that stretch have been to Navy.
• The Bison won a pair of individual events, picked up a relay win, and saw five runners-up at the quad meet.
• The Bison posted a 9-1 (7-1 PL) record during the 2021-22 season.
• Bucknell finished second at the 2022 Patriot League Championships, winning 10 medals and collecting 577.5 points. The Bison also took second at the previous championships in 2019-20 and have now taken the runner-up position 13 times in program history.
• Bucknell returned five of its six All-Patriot League honorees: Catherine Craig (1st in 2022, 2nd in 2020), Abby Doss (1st in 2022), Sabrina Vumbacco (1st in 2022, 2nd in 2020), Sophia Donati (2nd in 2022), Esme Hunter (2nd in 2022). The Bison will be without three-time First Team All-Patriot Leaguer Maddie Hartigan, who set four individual school records and was part of three more record-setting relay teams during her time with the Orange & Blue.
• Craig, one of Bucknell's three returning First Team All-League honorees, earned a bronze medal in the 400 IM at last year's championships and also placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 breaststroke. She scored 44 points, good for fourth among Bison and 14th among all swimmers. She currently owns the program's second-fastest 200 breaststroke time (2:14.23).
• Doss, another returning First Teamer, earned silver in the 400 IM and bronze in the 200 breaststroke in the 2022 championships. She set the school record in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.44) at last year's Bucknell Invitational and scored 47 points at the championship meet.
• Vumbacco was a First Team All-Leaguer in 2022 and earned Second Team as well as Rookie of the PL Championship Meet in 2020. She's a four-time Patriot League individual medalist, including a silver in the 1,650 freestyle and a bronze in the 500 freestyle last season. Her 4:48.90 500 freestyle time ranks second in program history.
• Bucknell added seven student-athletes to its program ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. The newcomers hail from seven different states: California, Connecticut, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Bucknell Men at a Glance
• Bucknell enters the weekend 5-1 (4-1 PL) and is set to host its three-day invitational at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell earned wins over American (240.5-45.5) and Lafayette (234.5-63.5) while taking its first loss of the season against Navy (110-189) at the Bucknell Quad Meet two weeks ago.
• The men took first-place finishes in four individual events and won the 200 freestyle relay. They also saw six runner-up finishes.
• Bucknell is 12-4 in dual meets dating back to the start of last season.
• Bucknell finished 7-3 (6-2 PL) during the 2022 campaign. It was the team's best record in dual meet competition since the 2013-14 season.
• The Bison placed third at the 2022 Patriot League Championships with 559.5 points, which were the most they've collected since 2012. The Bison broke a staggering 11 school records at the championship meet, helping head coach Dan Schinnerer earn his third career Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year nod.
• The Bison men's team also finished second at the ECAC Championships in 2021-22.
• Bucknell returned six of its eight 2022 All-Patriot League honorees, including all four First Teamers: Andy Dorsel (1st in 2022), Chris Fabian (1st in 2022), John Gehrig (1st in 2022), Chris Kopac (1st in 2022), Justin DiSanto (2nd in 2022), Leo Kuyl (2nd in 2022). It lost Second Team All-Patriot League honorees Liam Pitt and Sean Quinn to graduation in the spring.
• Fabian broke the school record in the 100 butterfly (48.00), Gehrig set a new standard in the 200 butterfly (1:46.14), Kopac broke the 200 freestyle record (1:36.48), and Kuyl set records in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. The Bison also put up record-setting performances in a host of relays.
• The Bison welcomed 11 newcomers to the program ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. They hail from eight different states: California, Connecticut (2), Florida, Maryland, New York (2), Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
Men's New Program Top-10 Times:
• 1,000 freestyle – Alex Crossing (9:28.14) – 6th in school history
A Look Back at the 2021 Bucknell Invitational:
• Both teams finished second at the 2021 Bucknell Invitational, which featured six of the eight teams attending this year's meet. The Bison women totaled 1,306.5 points, placing them behind only Towson (1,448.5). The Bison men also finished second behind only Towson, totaling 1,229 points.
• The women saw 15 new additions to the program's top-10 list during the 2021 invitational, and three set school records.
• The men saw eight new additions to the top-10 list, and the Bison set school records in two events.
