LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's water polo team faced off with Johns Hopkins and George Washington on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.Â
In the noon game, the Bison defeated the Blue Jays 18-4. Then, in the nightcap, they fell to George Washington 11-12 to move to 10-8 (7-3 MAWPC) this season.Â
Game One:Â Bucknell 18, Johns Hopkins 4
Against Johns Hopkins, the Bison used a potent offensive attack combined with another strong defensive performance in taking an emphatic win to open the day. Bucknell scored the first five goals of the game, and 14 of the first 15 goals overall, in cruising to an 18-4 victory. Â
Bucknell benefited from nine different goalscorers, with three Bison accounting for three goals on the day. Colby Paine, Shay Gillearn, and senior Andu Vlasceanu each scored hat tricks while Matt Ryckman, Jack Lewis, and Hasan Mogultay scored multiple goals.  The Bison improve to 2-0 against the Blue Jays this season, and marks the fourth time this season the Bison have accounted for 18 goals or more in a single game. Â
Game Two:Â Bucknell 11, George Washington 12
Against George Washington, the teams tied seven times in a back-and-forth affair. Neither team would gain more than a two-goal lead until a 3-0 run by the Colonials in the second quarter gave the visitors a 9-6 lead. However, Bucknell came right back with a 3-0 run of its own on goals by Hasan Mogultay and a pair of goals by Stefanovic before the Colonials scored at the end of the period to take a 10-9 lead heading into the final period.
Bucknell opened the fourth by tying the game at ten on a goal by Ian Shultz, before two unanswered goals by the Colonials over a two-minute span once again brought the lead to two. Doruk Ozar scored Bucknell's final goal with 33 seconds left to pull within one, but Bucknell ultimately couldn't complete the comeback in falling to the Colonials again by a narrow margin. Â
Bucknell benefited from seven different goalscorers, with two Bison accounting for three goals. Aleksa Stefanovic and Hasan Mogultay each scored a hat trick.
Bucknell continues MAWPC action next week with a Saturday game at Mount St. Mary's (Md.) and a Sunday home game against Navy.Â
