Game Schedule
Bucknell (9-7, 6-2 MAWPC) vs. Johns Hopkins (7-11, 2-3 MAWPC) – Saturday, October 8, 12 p.m.
Bucknell (9-7, 6-2 MAWPC) vs. No. 19 George Washington (13-1, 7-0 MAWPC) Saturday, October 8, 6 p.m.
- Bucknell returns home for the first time since September 18, when the Bison went 3-1 at the Bucknell Invitational to open the season at 2-1 in conference play.
- One week later, the Bison went 4-0 at the MAWPC crossover in Erie, Pennsylvania before falling to George Washington 11-9 in its latest outing to stand at 6-2 in the conference.
- Bucknell's 6-2 record places it second in the conference standings behind the league-leading Colonials, who will enter the weekend with a 7-0 record and 14 points overall. Fordham and George Washington both enter the weekend with undefeated records in the conference, with the Rams 4-0 in league play.
- This year's CWPA Championship will feature a new look, as all 11 teams will qualify for the tournament, as opposed to the normal eight-team format of years past that featured the MAWPC-East plus a lone representative from the West Division.
- The top three seeds in this year's tournament get a first-round bye, with seeds 4-11 playing opening-round games on Friday. The winner of the tournament's opening-round games will then play one more game on Friday.
- Bucknell has won two out of the last three MAWPC Championships, earning the fourth seed last season. The Bison lost their opening round game against fifth-seeded Wagner last season, but still hold an impressive record of 13-3 in MAWPC games since the league's inception in 2016.
- Bucknell, however, still has eight MAWPC contests left in its season sandwiched around a trip out west to the Julian Fraser Memorial from October 22-23.
- The Bison will meet the Blue Jays for the second time this season, with Bucknell taking a 15-7 win on September 17 to open the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium.
- Eight Bison scored in the win, while Jack Lewis made his season debut in that game. Andu Vlasceanu scored five goals in the victory, while Aleksa Stefanovic continued a run of eight straight games with multiple goals to start in his career in the win.
- Lewis has been in excellent form since returning to the pool. The senior from Wilton, Connecticut has scored 23 goals since making his return on September 17, including a career-high seven tallies in the victory over Salem on September 24. Lewis has scored in each game since returning to the pool, continuing to prove his reliability since playing a vital role in Bucknell's NCAA Tournament run in his first season in the Orange and Blue. Lewis needs just four more goals to reach 100 for his career.
- Fellow senior Vlasceanu also recently reached 100 goals for the Bison, accomplishing the feat in the win over Gannon where the native of Bucharest, Romania scored a career-best six goals.
- Bucknell scored 68 goals in four games in Erie in the MAWPC crossover games, and has managed to score in double figures in five of its last six outings. The only outlier was the defeat to the Colonials on October 1.
- Senior Adrien Touzot continues to have a solid season in the cage, making 14 saves against the Colonials on Saturday. The elder Touzot has now accumulated at least double-digit saves in five of his last six outings, including a season-best 16 against McKendree as Bucknell limited the Bearcats to just three goals on the day.
- Bucknell will get a rematch against the Colonials in Kinney, where the Bison have split the last two matchups. Bucknell lost last season's matchup in Kinney in a defensive slugfest, 8-5. However, the Bison split two matchups at home in 2019, taking the MAWPC Championship 9-4 two weeks after another close game between the two teams in which the Colonials won 11-10.
- The five goals were a season low for the Bison against GW in last season's defeat, with five different Bison finding the back of the cage. The Bison hold a 59-21 record in the all-time series between the two teams.
- Bucknell will play two more conference games on October 15-16. The Bison will make the short trip to Emmitsburg to take on Mount St. Mary's, before hosting Navy in an important matchup on Sunday, October 16.
