Bucknell Men's Water Polo Faces No. 18 Fordham on Saturday Afternoon

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men' s water polo team will face a stern challenge this weekend as it gets back into conference play at No. 18 Fordham.
The Bison will travel to the Bronx for the first of two scheduled trips to New York, with the Rams also hosting the MAWPC Championship the weekend of Friday, November 18.

- Bucknell is coming off a 1-3 weekend against tough competition, battling three ranked foes and Fresno Pacific. Bucknell defeated Fresno Pacific 22-7, scoring its second-highest goal tally of the season in the victory.
- Bucknell's first two defeats to San Jose State and Santa Clara were by a combined four goals, before falling to No.3 Stanford 19-6 in the final game of the weekend.
- Saturday's game against Fordham marks the seventh game this season the Bison will play a ranked opponent. The Rams were ranked 17th when the two teams met on September 17 while George Washington was ranked 19th in both meetings with the Bison this season.
- Fordham is 17-6 this season, with an unblemished 11-0 record in MAWPC games. The Rams defeated Navy, Johns Hopkins, and George Washington this past weekend, all by seven goals or more.
- Fordham has won nine games in a row, and is also 4-0 in home games at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center. Fordham's win over the Colonials (10-1 MAWPC) gives the Rams control of their own destiny in earning the No. 1 seed at the MAWPC Championships at their home pool.
- Bucknell and the Rams played a close game in Lewisburg earlier this season on September 17, a 10-7 win for the visitors. Bucknell opened the game with a 3-0 lead, but the Rams used a late surge in the fourth quarter, outscoring Bucknell 4-1, to down the Bison.
- Aleksa Stefanovic had three goals in the game against Fordham while Andu Vlasceanu added two goals. Jack Lewis and Shay Gillearn also scored in the defeat.
- Bucknell last defeated the Rams in the Bronx on November 16, 2019, a 9-6 win to close the regular season. The win for Bucknell helped the Bison earn their fourth straight No. 1 seed for the MAWPC Tournament in the process.
- Bucknell is 47-6 in the all-time series against the Rams, with Fordham taking four out of the past five matchups. Each of those last five matchups have been decided by four goals or fewer.
- Stefanovic leads the way for Bucknell with 63 goals this season, including a six-goal outing against Santa Clara, tying his career best. The first-year from Belgrade, Serbia has had a tremendous year for the Bison, also dishing out a career-best four assists against San Jose State.
- Stefanovic needs just 22 points this season to reach 100 for his career.
- In the win over Fresno Pacific, the Bison handed out 13 assists, the most by the squad this season. Seven players had assists in that game, including three each from Josh Yardley and Stefanovic. Yardley also posted a season-best five points in the win on two goals and three assists.
- Against Fresno Pacific, Matt Ryckman drew four ejections, a career best while tying his career high in goals with three. The sophomore earned the start in that game, his first of the season. Ryckman has tallied 17 goals this season, and is on pace to surpass his 21 goals that he scored in 24 games as a first-year.
- Ian Shultz tied his career high for goals in a game, scoring three in the win over Fresno Pacific.
- Adrien Touzot had a stellar weekend in the cage despite being busy, saving 23 shots through the first two games against San Jose State and Santa Clara. Touzot continued his excellent form in Sunday's game against Fresno Pacific, not allowing a goal in his 16 minutes of play while the Bison defense limited the Sunbirds to just three shots on target.
- Lewis reached his 100th career goal over the weekend, and has now scored 30 goals this season, third on the team. Vlasceanu (42) and Hasan Mogultay (29) have also contributed over 20 goals this season.
- Bucknell has rotated its squad heavily this season, with 11 different players starting at least one game this season.
- Bucknell sits in the third spot in the MAWPC standings with four games to go in the regular season. The Bison are two games back of George Washington for a top-two spot, with GW still having five conference games left to play.
- Bucknell (8-4) lies just ahead of Wagner (8-5), for third place in the standings. The top three seeds in this year's MAWPC Tournament will all qualify for a "bye" into the later games on Friday. Seeds four through 11 in the new format will all contest earlier games in the day before the winners of those matchups will play a second game later on Friday.
- After this weekend's game at Fordham, the Bison will have three more MAWPC matchups, with two of those at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell travels to Navy on Saturday, November 5 before hosting Wagner and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, November 6 to close the regular season.
