Stavrakas Remains Unbeaten in Singles at ITA Atlantic Regional

RESULTS
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Adam Stavrakas continued the strong start to his collegiate career, winning two more singles matches on Thursday to improve to 4-0 on the week at the ITA Atlantic Regional at the University of Virginia.
Stavrakas began the day with a Round of 16 match in the Bronze Draw, putting him one win away from advancing into the Silver Draw. He moved on with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Villanova's Cooper Gordon, and then he won his first-round match in the Silver Draw as well, 6-1, 6-4 over Duquesne's David Georgadze.
Next up for Stavrakas is Louis Gorregues of Temple in the Round of 32. The top eight in the Silver Draw move on to the Gold Draw, which is the championship flight.
Senior Michael Owen also won twice on Wednesday to get into the pre-qualifying final, but he fell 6-3, 6-4 to Zavan Fahim of George Mason.
Junior Tim Zelikovsky and freshman Amar Tahirovic both received byes into the Silver Draw but dropped their first matches. Zelikovsky lost 8-6 in a first-set tiebreaker against Duquesne's Kaipo Marshall. He came back to win the second set 6-1, but Marshall prevailed 6-2 in the third.
Tahirovic fell 6-3, 6-3 to Old Dominion's Codie Van Schalkwyk.
There was also more Bronze Draw doubles action on Thursday. After receiving a first-round bye Stavrakas and Owen won 8-3 over Jin Dassanayake and Tamirlan Teberikov of Duquesne. The Bison duo then fell by an 8-2 count to George Mason's Rithik Sardana and Monil Lotlikar in the quarterfinals.
Zelikovsky and Tahirovic also had a bye into the second round but fell 8-7 in a tiebreaker (7-3) to Momin Khan and Alvaro Pedraza of George Mason.
The all-freshman tandem of Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega and Brendan McDonald was relegated to the consolation draw on Wednesday, but they came back to post an 8-3 win over Villanova's Noah Winton and Joshua Robinson to move into the consy semifinals.
Silver Draw singles play continues on Friday with Rounds of 32 and 16 in the main draw, as well one round in the consolation flight.
