Stavrakas Advances to Silver Draw Round of 16 as Bison Have 3-1 Day at ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Adam Stavrakas won his fifth straight match before falling one victory away from a berth in the championship flight, and Tim Zelikovsky and Amar Tahirovic both won Silver Draw consolation matches as the Bucknell men's tennis team wrapped up a productive week at the ITA Atlantic Regional at the University of Virginia.

Stavrakas, who was making his collegiate debut this week, entered Friday's play having already advanced out of the Bronze Draw pre-qualifier and won his first-round match in the Silver Draw. On Friday he knocked out Temple's Louis Gorregues 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the Round of 16. The top eight from the Silver Draw move into the Gold Draw to play for the championship, but Stavrakas was eliminated 6-2, 6-3 by Virginia Tech's Alvaro Ariza. Stavrakas finished 5-1 on the week, dropping only three sets in the six matches.

Tahirovic and Zelikovsky both received byes into the Silver Draw and played consolation matches on Friday after dropping close first-round matches a day earlier.

Tahirovic cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Daniel Kliebhan of Richmond, while Zelikovsky defeated William & Mary's Bill Duo 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

The ITA Regional marked the end of Bucknell's fall season, the first under new head coach Jason Cohen. Bucknell's spring schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
