LEWISBURG, Pa. – Blake Wisdom carded a 1-over-par 71 and finished in a tie for third place in a field of 100 players at the Bucknell Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Bucknell Golf Club. The Bison closed with a 293 team score and ended up in a tie for ninth place.
Final-round play was delayed for about an hour due to morning fog, but once the haze lifted the 18-team field enjoyed beautiful fall conditions. Wisdom started the day in a tie for first place on the individual leaderboard. He made four birdies on the way to a solid 71, and a clutch par putt at 18 made him the co-leader in the clubhouse at the time, but Robert Morris's Josh Nagy and Rider's Jack Urban went low while battling it out for the title.
Nagy closed with a 66 to finish at 2-under 208 for the tournament, while Urban's final-round 65 vaulted him up 17 places but left him two shots short. Nagy and Urban were tied for the lead until a late two-shot swing. Urban, who had just birdied four straight holes, finished with a bogey at 18 just as Nagy was making a birdie on 17 one group back.
Wisdom and Cornell's Benjamin Choe tied for third place at 1-over 211.
Bucknell's best round of the day was a 70 from Michael Rudnick, playing for the Bison B squad. Rudnick offset four bogeys with four birdies and jumped all the way up into the top 10 with a T-8th finish at 5-over 215.
Bucknell's A unit shot 881 over 54 holes, tied with Saint Francis (Pa.) for ninth place. Rider closed with a 281 for an 858 total and held off runner-up Robert Morris by eight shots. Holy Cross (871), Mount St. Mary's (873), Towson (874), and Youngstown State (874) rounded out the top five.
In addition to Wisdom's 71, the Bison counted a 72 from Jackson Bussell, a 73 from Andres Barraza, and one of the 78s from Jack Gardner and James Robbins. Barraza made an eagle on the par-5 15th hole and was 1-under through 16 before a double-double finish.
The Bison B group posted a 293 composite, its best of the week. Following Rudnick's 70 were Josh Holtschlag's 82, James Key's 75, and Max Orwicz's 76. Jake Maddaloni was right behind with a 77.
Bucknell has one more fall tournament on the schedule, the Nassau Invitational hosted by LIU at Glen Cove GC on Oct. 24-25.
