BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Bison men's tennis team wrapped up play at The Star Group Binghamton Championship on Sunday. Junior Nick Mueller, who was 8-0 on the season and had a nine-match winning streak dating back to last spring, suffered his first defeat of the campaign in the A Singles flight championship match.Â
Mueller was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Merrimack's Jan Semerak in the final. Earlier in the tournament, Mueller beat Binghamton's Michael Pawlowicz in straight sets, with both sets extending to tiebreakers. Mueller then took a 3-0 first-set lead on Colgate's Jack Selati before Selati retired with an injury.
Also in action on Sunday was freshman Nicolas Grunig, who played in the third-place match in the D Singles draw. Grunig played a marathon with Colgate's Josh Israel, but Israel prevailed 11-9 in a third-set super tiebreak.Â
In round-robin doubles action, Grunig and Per Astrom fell 6-1 to Merrimack's Jonathan Garcia and Alec Mackay. Â
The Bison return to the courts next weekend at the three-day Saint Joseph's Invitational in Philadelphia.Â
