Stefanowicz Scores Twice in Bucknell Field Hockey Shutout vs. Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Senior Mary Kate Stefanowicz scored two goals, and junior goalkeeper Clara McCormick posted a shutout in the cage to give Bucknell field hockey a 2-0 victory over Lock Haven on Sunday. It was Bucknell's second win in a row, and the team improved to 3-2 on the season. Meanwhile, Lock Haven falls to 1-2 on the season following the loss.
As a team Bucknell led 12-3 in shots, putting nine on goal. The Bison were also awarded a season-high 14 penalty corners, including nine in the first half. Stefanowicz' goals were scored in the 19th and 43rd minutes of the game, and Erin Zielinski and Maddie Rehak supplied assists. Stefanowicz now leads the Bison with three goals and seven points this season as she records the second multi-goal game of her career.
Bucknell dominated possession early in the contest and saw five first-quarter penalty corners, but it was the team's seventh corner of the game in the second quarter that Stefanowicz got the team on the board. Rehak was assisting on the shot, giving her two in the category this season.
Bucknell held Lock Haven without a shot in the two middle quarters while the Bison totaled five. 12 minutes into the third, Stefanowicz converted again after shooting from the top of the circle on Bucknell's 12th corner attempt, receiving help from Zielinski.
Lock Haven managed just one more shot in the contest despite seeing two penalty corners in the final frame. Bucknell continued to pressure the Lock Haven goalkeeper with three more shots over the last 15 minutes.
Senior defender Grace McEvoy matched Stefanowicz with a team-high four shots, putting each on target. It was McCormick's first shutout of the season and the second of her career. She made a pair of saves in the contest.
Next, Bucknell opens Patriot League play with a home game against Holy Cross on Saturday, Sept. 18. The Bison then host Sacred Heart at Graham Field on Sunday, Sept. 19. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
