Bucknell Claims Top 12 Spots
LORETTO, Pa. -- Brendan Mellitt led the way for the Bison on Saturday morning as Bucknell took the top 12 spots at the Father Bede Invite at the Immergrun Golf Course. Â Bucknell won the dual against Saint Francis (Pa.) with 15 points to the Red Flash's 50. Â
"We got exactly what we were hoping for by both genders," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "Our top people were able to run together with a very controlled effort and the challenging course, and the hills gave us a great training effect. This is a true cross country course in which it's impossible to establish a rhythm, and you need to stay focused and just have a tough mindset. Our runners did just that. Now we have three weeks to train and prepare for the Paul Short Invite, in which the field will be large and competitive."  Â
Mellitt, a sophomore, who was narrowly beaten by teammate Michael Donnelly at the Bison Open last weekend, came out with the victory this week with a time of 27:36.7.  Mellitt just beat out seniors Owen Chase (27:37.3) and Brendan O'Toole (27:37.3), as spots 2-5 finished within six tenths of a second from one another.  Stephen Schousen (27:37.7) and Donnelly rounded out the top five (27:37.9). Â
Noah Martin, Peter Sorensen, Bobby Lynam, Harry Marson, Ryan Miele, Greg Eisenhower, and Domenic Campagna made up the rest of the top 12 finishers for the Bison.
Grayson Crockett, Ben Santos, Asa Friedrich, Samuel Whittaker, Jeffrey Gibbs, Matt Cervon, Quinn McCutcheon, Max DiCerbo, Colby Belczyk, and Thomas White rounded out the competitors for the Bison in the field of 32. Â
Bucknell will have several weeks to prepare for the Paul Short Invite on October 1. Â
