Samuel Whittaker Posts Top Finish for the Bison
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Samuel Whittaker (89th, 24:42.8) was Bucknell's top finisher at the highly-regarded and competitive Paul Short Run on Friday morning. Whittaker, a senior who earned All-Patriot League recognition for the first time in the spring, was Bucknell's only finisher in the top 100 in the Gold race's field of 357 competitors.

"I thought our men did an incredible job considering the bus company picked us up an hour and a half late, and we arrived 20 minutes before the race," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "We did not have a proper warmup. This put a lot of stress on them both mentally and physically, and they ran a respectable race. The adversity affected some in a good way and some in a bad way, which didn't allow us to maximize our potential. This race will make us a better team for it, and we can't wait to get back to work to prepare for Pre-Nationals at Florida State in two weeks. It was really good to see Whittaker get back to form."
The Bison finished 22nd as a team (653) in the field of 40. North Carolina took home the team title in the race (56), narrowly edging out Villanova (57). Princeton (74), Utah State (77), and Stony Brook (210) rounded out the top five. Fellow Patriot League schools Army (9th, 298) and Navy (10th, 311) earned top-ten spots.
Michael Donnelly (140th, 25:05.1) was next for the Bison, followed by Ryan Miele (147th, 25:07.3). Owen Chase (167th, 25:17.1) and Harry Marson (170th, 25:18.2) rounded out Bucknell's scoring runners on the day. Brendan O'Toole (196th), Stephen Schousen (232nd), Brendan Mellitt (283rd), Noah Martin (301st), and Peter Sorensen (314th) all represented the Bison in the Gold race.
Several Bison also competed in the Open race earlier on Friday morning. Bobby Lynam (25th, 25:24.6) was Bucknell's top finisher in the field of 380. Christian Cadmus (43rd, 25:39.8) also finished in the top 50. Ben Santos (51st), Asa Friedrich (54th), Domenic Campagna (55th), Grayson Crockett (78th), Thomas White (106th), Patrick Kilcooley (118th), Quinn McCutcheon (143rd), and Jeffrey Gibbs (173rd) all represented Bucknell.
Bucknell returns to action on October 16 when it travels to Florida State, the site of the NCAA Championships this year, for the FSU Invite/Pre-Nationals. A group of Bison will also travel to the Leopard Invitational that same day.
