LEWISBURG, Pa. – The NCAA has announced an interim name, image and likeness (NIL) policy, and Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf signed into law PA Senate Bill No. 381, which includes language that legalizes NIL compensation for college athletes. Bucknell Athletics fully supports these measures, and resources will be available for Bison student-athletes that align with the department's robust Student-Athlete Enrichment program.
"This is a very exciting time for our student-athletes, and we are supportive of the new legislation set forth by both Gov. Wolf and the NCAA Division I Board of Directors," said director of athletics and recreation Jermaine Truax. "While we recognize that the onset of the NIL era still has many unknowns, our staff is committed to supporting not only our current and prospective student-athletes, but also our alumni, supporters, coaches and valued business partners, who will all be impacted by these significant changes. This is certainly the dawn of a new age of college athletics, and we look forward to navigating it as a team with a clear focus on continuing to provide Bison student-athletes with the best possible college experience that prepares them for future success."
Bucknell's Student-Athlete Enrichment program is designed to help develop Bison student-athletes holistically, with resources dedicated to enhancing their personal and professional development, leadership, health and wellness, and community engagement. With additional support from Bucknell's Office of NCAA Compliance and Student Services, Bison Athletics will leverage these departmental and other campus resources to assist student-athletes who wish to take advantage of the new NIL legislation. Educational opportunities for student-athletes and staff will be provided in the coming weeks.
In addition, last month, the Patriot League entered a league-wide partnership with INFLCR, a digital platform that will allow student-athletes to access content to promote their personal brands, as well as provide NCAA compliance and NIL reporting tools for student-athletes and staff.
