Ramos, Fiamoncini Set to Compete at NCAA East Preliminary on Thursday

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Maura Fiamoncini and Ashlyn Ramos are each scheduled to compete on Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium. The top 12 finishers from each event will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships held at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field from June 9-12. Â

Fiamoncini, the Patriot League Champion in the javelin for the third straight year, has already qualified for the Olympic Trials by way of her Patriot League Meet Record throw of 180-9. Â The senior, who has only competed twice this season, managed to throw 174-0 or better in each of her throws this season, and the native of Mount Carmel, Pa. will look to improve upon her runner-up showing at the 2019 East Preliminary also at North Florida where she recorded a mark of 176-10. Â Â
Fiamoncini is scheduled to compete on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. in the javelin, and is seeded sixth overall. Â She will face several familiar faces in the preliminary meet, including 2019 National Runner-Up Kylee Carter of Auburn and 2019 third-place finisher Madison Wiltrout of North Carolina. Â Marie-Therese Obst of Georgia enters the competition as the top seed in the East region, throwing a personal-best of 201-4 on April 9 at the Spec Towns Invitational. Fiamoncini, a two-time Second Team All-American, will look to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships held in Eugene, Oregon for the third straight season. Â
Ramos will be making her NCAA debut on the track in the 10,000 after qualifying for the NCAA Meet in cross country earlier this spring. Â The junior from Sammamish, Washington is seeded 31st in the 10k with her school-record time of 34:04.76 set at the Virginia Challenge in mid-April. Â Ramos continues to enjoy an excellent junior campaign where she has excelled both in the Patriot League and nationally, and is scheduled to compete on Thursday at 9:10 p.m. Â
The Patriot League Champion in the 10k (35:37.52) and runner-up in the 5k (16:23.75) Ramos owns top-two marks in Bucknell history in each event, and placed 141st at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on March 5 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Â NCAA Cross Country Champion Mercy Chelangat of Alabama holds the top seed in the field of 48 with a time of 32:13.13. Â Â
