WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Bucknell University baseball team dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader at Holy Cross on Saturday, April 3.
The Bison fall to 5-11 this season with the pair of defeats.
Game One: Holy Cross 7, Bucknell 0
The Bison were limited to just two hits in game one from Peter Marren and Logan Kellerman as Holy Cross starting pitcher Jack DiLauro pitched a complete game while striking out 11 to keep the Bison off of the scoreboard. Bryce Reimer pitched the majority of the game for the Bison, pitching 4.1 innings of the seven-inning contest while allowing five hits and two earned.
The two hits were the second-lowest total by the Bison since March 6 in a 7-0 defeat against La Salle. Bucknell had entered the first game with at least 12 hits in three of its last five games.
Marren and Kellerman posted Bucknell's only hits of the day, while Kendall Pierson and Grant Voytovich each drew walks for Bucknell's only four baserunners on the day. Brenden Tuttle (1-2) was charged with the loss on the mound.
Game Two: Holy Cross 10, Bucknell 2
Bucknell managed eight hits in game two, but the Crusaders scored nine runs during a three-inning stretch, five of those unearned, in taking a 10-2 win over Bucknell in the second game of the day.
Bucknell took a 2-0 lead in the top of first. Caleb Broughton reached on an error, before a single by Peter Marren moved the senior to third. Eunsang Yu then brought Broughton home on a sac fly to right to give Bucknell a 1-0 lead. The Bison doubled their advantage when Grant Voytovich singled home Marren from second for Bucknell's second run of the inning.
However, Holy Cross reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning, capitalizing on an error by the Bison. All three runs were unearned in the frame, as Sam Kirkpatrick hit a three-run double to center field. The Crusaders added two more unearned runs in the fifth on a throwing error by the Bison with the bases loaded.
Holy Cross pulled away in the sixth with four more runs to take a 9-2 lead that it would never relinquish in taking a 10-2 win.
The Crusaders were bolstered by another pitching performance, with relievers Eric Lopes and Nate Chudy allowing just two hits over the final five innings.
Marren provided a solid game offensively, notching three hits in four at-bats. Chris Cannizzaro, Broughton, Voytovich, Terwilliger, and Nic Adamo each added a hit.
Will Greer (2-2), was charged with the loss on the mound.
