About the Bison
- Bucknell is coming off a 2-1 weekend against divisional rival Navy, splitting the first two games in Annapolis, before a 10-3 win at home on Sunday in which the Bison tied their season high in hits with 14.
- The Bison have averaged over 10 hits per contest in their last six games, and have hit .295 as a team in that time span. Bucknell has managed 14 hits in three conference games this season overall, which is the fifth-highest single-game mark among Patriot League teams this season.
- A big part of the Bison offense over the past six games has been senior second baseman Caleb Broughton, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Week earlier this week. Broughton has hit .474 while starting five of Bucknell's past six games, while playing error-free defensively. The native of Lebanon, New Hampshire recorded a career-best four hits in a defeat to Navy in game two, and has nine hits, four runs scored, and three RBIs in his past five games.
- Jacob Terwilliger is another Bison who has picked it up offensively as of late. The native of Allen, Texas is hitting .471 in his past five games, notching eight hits, five runs scored, and four RBIS. Terwilliger has also added three extra-base hits, and recorded a triple while going 3-for-4 in Bucknell's win over Lehigh on April 12. Terwilliger has now vaulted into the top four in batting average in the Patriot League this season (.351).
- In the past three games, first year Anthony Sherwin recorded two multi-hit games, including a 2-for-3 outing with two RBIs in the series opener. Sherwin enjoyed a fantastic six games against the Mids this year, hitting .421 (8-for19) with eight RBIS and two home runs.
- Peter Marren continues to be one of Bucknell's most consistent hitters this season, where the senior third baseman has consistently ranked among the league's leaders in average this year. Marren is currently just behind Terwilliger in fifth (.344), and is the only Bison to have played and started all 24 games this year to date. Marren is also tied for third in the Patriot League in hits (31), and ninth in on-base percentage (0.434). The Darien, Connecticut native has started each of Bucknell's 40 games over the past two seasons.
- Senior pitcher Brenden Tuttle, who had a solid outing in game one against the Mids (5.0 IP, 8 K's), allowed just two hits against a Navy side that currently ranks 35th in the NCAA in average (.293). Tuttle ranks among the Patriot League leaders in total strikeouts (35), and his 34 strikeouts in conference games this year rank second overall in the Patriot League.
- Will Greer (17) currently ranks first in the Patriot League in batters struck out looking.
- Chris DiFiore is tied with Preseason Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Mason Black of Lehigh and Jake Bloss of Lafayette in wins this season (3), and had another solid outing against Navy in the series finale, going four innings while allowing four hits and a strike out. DiFiore lowered his season ERA to 2.16 in the process, which is second in the Patriot League. In conference games, DiFiore's ERA of 1.80 is the lowest in the Patriot League ahead of Jack DiLauro of Holy Cross (1.90).
- Graeme Carroll earned his first career win in relief of DiFiore on Sunday, going three innings while striking out three. Sophomore Anthony Casciola has also enjoyed a solid past few outings. After blanking Lehigh over the final two innings on April 12, Casciola followed that performance up by pitching 3.2 solid innings in Bucknell's game one win over Navy in extra innings. Casciola allowed four hits and just one earned run in that time span, and earned his first career win in the process.
- Jacob Corson enjoyed an excellent weekend for the Orange and Blue, and belted his first career home run in a game two defeat to the Mids for a career high three-RBI day. Corson added two more RBIs in game three, including his second triple of the season for Bucknell's final run.
- Bucknell ranks third in the country in triples per game, averaging one every other game in 2021.
- This weekend's matchup will be the penultimate series between the Bison and the Mountain Hawks, as the two teams are scheduled to play 12 times this season.
- In six games against the Mountain Hawks this season, Corson is hitting .360 with four RBIs. Logan Kellerman (.357) has also posted solid numbers against the Mountain Hawks this season. Kellerman posted a career-high three hits with three RBIs in a defeat to the Mountain Hawks on March 14 at Depew Field.
