Fiamoncini Named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Maura Fiamoncini has been named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week after making her season debut on Sunday and winning the javelin as Bucknell took on UMBC and Saint Francis (Pa.).

Fiamoncini came out of the gates strong (174-0) in the javelin to pick up right where she left off after a quality sophomore season.

Fiamoncini won the event handily ahead of Sara Phelan of Saint Francis (Pa.) and posted her second-highest mark in her last 13 competitions overall. Fiamoncini came close to her facility record of 178-2, and she also holds the Bucknell school record in the javelin (184-0.5) Fiamoncini's mark ranks eighth in the country to date, and is just off the standard for the U.S. Olympic Trials (177-1.65)

A two-time Patriot League Champion and All-American, Fiamoncini finished ninth at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships to just miss out on First Team All-American honors.

Bucknell returns to competition on Saturday when it visits Lehigh.
