About the Bison
- The Bison tee it up against outside competition this weekend for the first time since March 10, 2020. Patriot League rivals Bucknell and Lehigh will shake off some rust with a pair of dual matches, with the Mountain Hawks hosting Saturday at Steel Club and the Bison hosting Sunday at Bucknell GC.
- The format will be match play, but all strokes will be counted (no gimmes) so that stroke play scores can be compiled as well. The teams can reset their lineups for Sunday's match.
- Bucknell will have nine players in action, with the top five comprising the "Blue" team and and competing in matches against five Lehigh players.
- The Bucknell "Blue" squad will consist of Casey Morrow, Morgan Sohosky, Tatum McKelvey, Cristina Canales and Kelsey Yi. Sohosky, Canales and Yi will all be making their Bucknell debuts. Sohosky is a Bloomsburg native who attended West Virginia University last year and has played well in intrasquad events since transferring to Bucknell in the fall. Canales is a first-year from Bilbao, Spain, and Yi is also a first-year from Auburn, Wash.
- Representing the Bison "Orange" squad and playing as individuals are Erin Holmes, Morgan Hennessy, Sun Woo Jeon and Sahana Paravantavida.
- The Bison graduated two from last year's squad -- Meredith Langs and Anna Dailey -- and return six who saw tournament action.
- Morrow is the team's top returnee. She had a terrific fall 2019 season, when she shot in the 70s in all eight of her rounds and set a school scoring average record for a fall season at 75.6. In the team's final competition prior to the COVID-19 shutdown last spring, Morrow shot 73-78 and finished T-6th at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Daytona Beach. Bucknell finished seventh out of 14 teams in that event.
- A week before the Lonnie Barton, the Bison shot 322-313-313 at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic, which is typically the largest collegiate tournament in the nation. McKelvey was Bucknell's low player there with rounds of 78-77-79. Paravantavida's final-round 75 was the team's best of the week.
- Bucknell will be taking on a Lehigh team that has already played in two tournaments this month. The Mountain Hawks finished sixth among seven teams at the Monmouth Hawk Spring Series with a team score of 354. This past weekend, Lehigh shot 331 to finish seventh out of 10 teams at the FDU Knights Shootout at Watchung Valley GC. Sophia Holland led the team with a 77.
Looking Ahead
- After this weekend's duals with Lehigh, the Bison will get back into tournament play on Apr. 2-3 at the Navy Spring Invitational.
- Bucknell will host its annual tournament on Apr. 10-11, and that will be the final tuneup before the Patriot League Championship Apr. 24-25 at Saucon Valley CC.
