About the Bison
• Bucknell hits the road for the first time in 2021 to face Saint Joseph's this weekend. Bucknell was 1-3 in road matches last season.
• Bucknell dropped its only match of the weekend on Sunday, falling 5-2 to NJIT at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Bison are now 1-3 on the young season.
• Sophomore Michael Owen continued to win on Sunday, picking up his second court one singles victory in a row. Owen, who earned Patriot League Player of the Week recognition last week, is now 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles this season. Bucknell has yet to lose a No. 1 singles match this spring.
• Joining Owen with a singles win was junior Nick Mueller, who also improved to 2-1 in singles play. Both of Mueller's wins have come on court three.
• Both sophomore Per Astrom and junior Cooper Bradshaw took their singles opponents to third sets.
• The Bison are 6-3 in doubles play this season, but won just one of the three matchups on Sunday. Mueller teamed up with sophomore Guillermo Torres to defeat NJIT's tandem, 7-5.
• Bucknell was without senior Marwan Abaza during the previous two matches.
Scouting the Hawks/Series History
• Saint Joseph's is 3-0, but has not competed since March 6. The Hawks were scheduled to play fellow Patriot League opponent Navy on Sunday before the match was postponed. Saint Joseph's three wins are over Coppin State, Chestnut Hill and Mount St. Mary's.
• Saint Joseph's senior Nathan Perrone has gone 3-0 at No. 1 singles this season. Perrone is also 3-0 in No. 1 doubles, playing alongside graduate student Eshan Kanetkar. Bucknell faced Kanetkar's brother, Ashwin, on Sunday in the NJIT match.
• Bucknell has faced Saint Joseph's in dual matches in each of the last two seasons, winning both times. The Bison won 5-2 over the Hawks at home last February.
Up Next
• Bucknell plays two matches against Temple next weekend, beginning with a 4 p.m. contest in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, March 27. The Bison then host the Owls in Hershey, Pa. on Sunday.
