Bucknell Men's Water Polo Closes Regular Season with Road Matchup at Mount St. Mary's

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University men's water polo team will take on one final MAWPC challenge before the MAWPC Championship when it travels to conference newcomer Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon.

- Bucknell is coming off a 1-1 weekend in its final home games of the season against Navy and Johns Hopkins.
- Bucknell led the Mids at the half, but Navy used a strong second half to push past the Bison, 8-7. Bucknell rebounded that same day with a 16-8 win over Johns Hopkins to secure a .500 or better record at Kinney for the 20th straight season.
- Bucknell converted 16 of its 19 shots against the Blue Jays on Sunday, with 11 Bison registering a point in the victory.
- Matt Ryckman, Shay Gillearn, Andu Vlasceanu, Jack Lewis, and Josh Yardley each scored multiple goals in the win, while Jack Bruce managed to chip in multiple assists.
- Jack Otto and Adrien Touzot split time in the cage in the victory, with the latter allowing just one goal in 16 minutes of action for a save percentage of .800.
- Bucknell fell to the Mids by a one-goal margin for the second time this season, and the Mids will face MSM at noon before Bucknell's scheduled 4 p.m. contest in Emmitsburg. The Mids are 7-2 this season, and are second in the MAWPC-East behind Fordham. Bucknell has played both schools close this season, with the last three matchups against Fordham and the Mids this season being decided by one goal each.
- The Mount is having a solid full debut season as a member of the MAWPC, posting a 6-18 record with a 1-8 mark in conference games to date. The Mount managed a winning record in the winter of 2021, going 5-4, and 3-2 in MAWPC West contests.
- Five of those losses for the Mount have come by two goals or less, with MSM earning its first conference win as a part of the Eastern section of the MAWPC on Saturday, September 25 against Johns Hopkins.
- Bucknell defeated Mount St. Mary's at home on Senior Day on October 30, 12-9 in the first-ever meeting between the two institutions. Lewis and Hasan Mogultay each scored three times in the victory to lead a contingent of seven Bison goal scorers.
- The Bison will look ahead to the MAWPC Championships that are set to begin on Friday, November 19 in Annapolis, Md. Bucknell's seed entering the tournament will be determined after the final round of games this weekend. Bucknell last competed at the MAWPC Championships in Annapolis in 2017, defeating Mercyhurst in the first round before a narrow defeat to Wagner in the semifinals. Bucknell closed the MAWPC Tournament with a 10-9 win over Fordham in the final game of the competition.
