About the Bison
- Bucknell wraps up its 2021 fall season at the Lehigh Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Bison have come on strong over the last two weeks, producing a runner-up finish at the Bucknell Invitational, followed by a win at the Howard Bison Invitational.
- Earlier this week, Bucknell finished one shot in front of William & Mary to win the Howard Bison Invitational at Woodmont Country Club. A very challenging course combined with damp and windy conditions meant elevated scores across the field, but Bucknell was able to persevere with a 54-hole total of 922. William & Mary finished with 923, and Princeton and Towson were also close behind.
- Junior Jackson Bussell notched his second career individual victory, shooting 74-74-76 to hold off Ethan Mangum of William & Mary by one shot.
- Bussell's other victory came at the Battle at Rum Pointe last March, which also led to a team title for Bucknell. Bussell joined Mike Chutz, Scott Spangenberg, Charlie Waddell, Andrew Cohen, Brian Bartow and Chris Tanabe as multiple individual winners at Bucknell.
- Bussell, who was named the Patriot League Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, now leads the team with a 72.5 scoring average this fall. Jason Lohwater is close behind at 73.4. Blake Wisdom, who is coming off back-to-back top-10 finishes, has a 75.4 average.
- Wisdom, Lohwater, Michael Rudnick, Jack Gardner and Jake Maddaloni will play in the lead group for Bucknell this week at Saucon Valley. Max Orwicz, who shot a career-best 75 in the final round of the Bucknell Invitational, will play as an individual. Â Â
- Bucknell has played very well at the Lehigh Invitational in recent years. The Bison won this event in both 2015 and 2016, before finishing second, fourth and sixth in the last three trips. The 2020 version was canceled due to COVID-19.
- In 2015, Bucknell ran away with the Lehigh Invitational, winning by 14 strokes over the runner-up Mountain Hawks. A year later, Bucknell and Lehigh were tied after 36 holes with 609 strokes apiece. The Bison then holed four pars on the sudden-death playoff hole to capture the tournament for the second year in a row.
- Bucknell also won the Lehigh Invitational in September of 1974.Â
- Wisdom (78-76) and Gardner (79-78) were in the lineup in Bucknell's last appearance at Lehigh's tournament. Holy Cross won the event, with Bucknell finishing T-6th alongside Siena.
