ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Bucknell men's golf team on Sunday posted a rounds of 306 and 304 in tough scoring conditions and hold a one-shot lead over William & Mary at the midway point of the Howard Bison Invitational at Woodmont Country Club.
It's a tight race at the top of the seven-team field, as Bucknell's 610 total is just one better than the Tribe and two in front of third-place Princeton. Host Howard, the first-round leader after opening with 301, slipped to fourth at 619 total, followed by Towson (620), Virginia Union (651) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (654).
Jackson Bussell led the way for Bucknell with a 4-over-par total of 148 (74-74), and he sits in a three-way tie for the individual lead with Howard's Gregory Odom Jr. and Princeton's Max Ting. Odom's 1-under 71 in the second round was the best score of the day across the field.
Bussell started the day on the seventh hole, but his final first-round scorecard featured two very different nines. On Woodmont's front nine, Bussell did not register a par, instead fashioning four birdies and five bogeys. His four birdies came in a five-hole span at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 7. By contrast, on the course's back nine, Bussell made eight pars and a bogey. In round two, he collected 13 pars and two birdies.
Freshman John Bradbeer, playing as an individual, is also in title contention. Bradbeer posted rounds of 76-74 and is in fifth place, just two shots off the lead. In his afternoon round, Bradbeer made 10 straight pars in one stretch and was even through 15 holes before giving a couple of shots back late.
Lohwater is the third Bucknell player in the top 10. The senior shot 76-77 on Sunday and is alone in eighth place, five shots behind the leaders. Lohwater turned in one of the highlights of the day when he holed out for eagle at the 400-yard, par-4 seventh hole in the first round.
Also for Bucknell, Blake Wisdom shot 79-76, Michael Rudnick carded 77-78, and Jack Gardner shot 80-77.
The final round is slated for Monday morning.
