LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball closed out its four-match homestand on Sunday, falling 3-0 to first-place Colgate at Davis Gym. The Bison moved to 5-12 (1-7 PL) with the loss, rounding out the first half of the Patriot League schedule. Colgate (10-7, 7-1 PL) hit .315 for the match and had three players post hitting percentages of .500 or better.
Libby Nieporte and Lisa Zoch led the Bison in kills with nine each, and Valentina Feigl posted six block assists in the loss. Bucknell struggled to a .105 hitting percentage, and both teams gave up nine service errors.
The Bison looked strong early on in set one and held the lead until Colgate overtook them at 8-7. The Raiders' surge helped them build a 22-15 lead, but the Bison battled back using a 5-0 run to pull within two of tying at 22-20. Bucknell would add just two more points before falling 25-22 in the opening frame. Bucknell committed just four attack errors in the first for a .250 hitting percentage.
Bucknell's only lead in the second set was at 1-0. The Raiders registered four of their seven total blocks in the second, but the Bison never allowed Colgate runs longer than three. Trailing 15-10, Bucknell tallied three straight kills and four of the next five points to pull within one of tying at 16-15. The Raiders responded immediately with their own 5-1 run and eventually secured the 25-19 victory to go up 2-0.
Colgate hit a match-high .550 in set three and built a sturdy 11-3 advantage that included six consecutive points scored to begin the third. The Colgate lead grew to 13 as the Bison fell behind 19-6 before stringing together five in a row to make it 19-11. The deficit was too much to overcome, however, as Colgate cruised to a 25-14 win in the final frame.
Bucknell setter Sarah Ramirez totaled 23 assists, adding a career-best four block assists and one kill in the process. Rookie Amanda Tesserot led the squad in digs with nine.
Bucknell will face the Raiders again in their next match as they visit Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 16 to begin the second half of the league schedule. It's the only match of the week, and the Bison return to Davis Gym the following weekend to host Holy Cross, who they defeated 3-1 back on Sept. 18. Saturday's match at Colgate is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
