Women's Basketball Clashes with Lehigh in Battle of Unbeatens This Weekend
1/13/2021 3:52:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell and Lehigh match up for the 88th and 89th times in program history this weekend in a battle between two of the three unbeaten Patriot League teams remaining. The two Pennsylvania teams look to grab an upper hand in the Patriot League Central division, as both are 2-0 after sweeping Lafayette. It's the second-consecutive season the Bison and Mountain Hawks have clashed with undefeated league records.
Bucknell and Lehigh were picked first and fourth, respectively, in the Patriot League Preseason Poll and haven't disappointed on the court. While Bucknell continues to stump opponents on defense, the Mountain Hawks have caught fire on offense and have won games by hanging big numbers on the board. This weekend's games pit the nation's best scoring defense against the Patriot League's top scoring offense, and Bucknell's first-ranked 3-point defense against Lehigh's NCAA Division I-leading 12.3 threes per game.

• Bucknell also has the best overall record during that span at 130-36.
What's Different This Year
• Due to adjustments related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-21 season will look different than any other in Bucknell's history. For starters, non-conference play was prohibited, pushing the start of the season back to Jan. 2 with a modified 16-game conference schedule.
• In an effort to minimize travel, teams will generally play the same opponent on back-to-back days at opposite sites. There will be a few exceptions where two teams play at the same site on consecutive days, such as when Colgate visits Bucknell on Jan. 23-24.
• The Patriot League has been reconfigured into three divisions for this season: North (Army, Boston U., Colgate, Holy Cross), Central (Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh) and South (American, Loyola, Navy). As a result, Bucknell will play Lehigh and Lafayette four times each, and the Bison will not play Army, Boston U. or Holy Cross at all in the regular season.
• The Patriot League Tournament will consist of just eight teams this year instead of the normal full field of 10. The three division winners will be seeded 1-3, the division runners-up will be seeded 4-6, and the next best remaining records will be seeded 7 and 8.
