Baseball Falls in Second Game of Florida Trip to Villanova, 4-1

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Bucknell University baseball team dropped the second game of its Florida trip to Villanova in a 4-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon.
Bucknell (3-10) out-hit the Wildcats (7-5), 8-6, but couldn't manage to come back from an early deficit in dropping its fourth straight game.
Villanova tallied a run each in the first and the second inning as Bucknell found itself down 2-0 early on. An error by the Bison allowed the Wildcats to score the opening run in the first, before Villanova doubled its advantage on an RBI single by Pat O'Neill.
Bucknell cut into the deficit in the top of the third. Brendan Lowery led off the inning with a double to left center on the second pitch he saw, before moving to third on a groundout by Kyle Lyons. Senior shortstop Evan Madigan then stepped up and singled to left field on the next pitch to score Lowery and drive in his fourth RBI of the season.
The Bison had several chances to tie the game, most notably in the fifth when singles from Tyler Wincig and Chris Cannizzaro put two runners on with two outs. However, Bucknell couldn't manage to find a run in the frame.
Villanova then added a run each in the bottom of the sixth and the bottom of the seventh on RBI singles to take a 4-1 lead after seven.
Bucknell once again managed to put two runners on in the top of the ninth, but couldn't find a run in the inning as the Bison fell 4-1.
Overall, the Bison managed eight hits while leaving ten men on base. Nate Grisius (2-2) was charged with the loss after pitching four innings while allowing two hits and one earned. Gordon Graceffo (4-0) earned the win for the Wildcats.
Wincig notched two hits on the day along with Lyons, while Peter Marren, Lowery, Cannizzaro and Madigan tallied Bucknell's other hits.
Bucknell will conclude its three-game series against Villanova on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Winter Haven.
