LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Ally Furano from the Bucknell women's water polo team has been selected the Bison Athlete of the Week, as well as CWPA Player of the Week, after a record-breaking weekend at the Bruno Classic.
The native of Stamford, Conn. opened the season with a Bucknell single-game record eight goals in a win over No. 24 Marist. The elder Furano broke the single-game record of seven previously owned by younger sister Paige Furano, assistant coach Hannah Sunday, and three other Bison in the process. Paige most recently tied the record against Harvard last season.
Furano followed that up with four goals in a win over Austin College, before scoring three goals and adding an assist in Bucknell's closely contested 7-5 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday. In Bucknell's 16-10 win over Siena to close the Bruno Classic, Furano scored six more times in helping the Bison to their first 4-0 start to the year since the 2011 season, and moved into the career top ten in goals scored with 259 to her name.
The Bison will play three of their four home regular season games this weekend as a part of the Bucknell Invitational beginning with a Friday evening contest against Salem University.
