BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kaitlin Salisbury highlighted a strong day one for the Bucknell women's track and field team at the Patriot League Indoor Championships after taking first in the prelims of the 60 (7.54) while also scoring in the long jump (5th, 18-2.25).

Bucknell (21) currently sits sixth in the standings after the first day of action. Navy (83) leads the way after day one, followed by Army (37) Holy Cross (31), Lehigh (26), Boston University (25), Bucknell (21), Loyola (Md.) (8), Lafayette (2), and Colgate (1).
"It was a solid day one," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "The 5k ladies ran great, and we got Lyons, Salisbury, Forker, and Fischer all advancing to the finals in their respective events. Qualifying for ECACs in the pole vault was big, and our two long jumpers in Macones and Salisbury were solid. Our 4x800 got three valuable points that could pay off by tomorrow. Day two should be exciting, as it looks like a good battle for third with us, Boston, Lehigh, and Holy Cross."
The time for Salisbury in the 60 is a season-best for the senior from Hawthorne, N.J., and the defending champion has now set season-bests in back-to-back races. Salisbury has now scored in the long jump in three of her four seasons at Bucknell in finishing fifth, and also qualified in the final spot for tomorrow's final in the 200 (25.65).
Gianna Macones (4th, 18-5.25) had a strong day in the long jump, picking up five points for the Bison. The senior improved by four places from her eighth-place finish a year ago at the Patriot League Championshiops, and by three inches total.
Tara Lyons finished second in the qualifying round of the 800 (2:13.61), a new personal-best that enters the Bucknell rankings at ninth, just ahead of teammate Karly Forker's mark of 2:13.68 that she set at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge.
Forker had a strong day in the mile, finishing third in the preliminary round (5:01.19), which is a new personal-best for the sophomore, and advances the native of Landing, N.J. to tomorrow's final.
The Bison picked up six points in the 5000, as Ashlyn Ramos (6th, 17:24.95), Hope Beyer (7th, 17:39.70) and Emily Deschler (8th, 17:43.16) each scored in the event. The time for Ramos is the tenth-fastest in Bucknell history, just behind the mark teammate Ashley Blair (17:24.88) set at the Patriot League Championships last year.
Alexandra Butz scored in the pole vault (6th, 11-11.75), a new personal-best that now ranks in a tie for fifth in the Bucknell record books, and is an ECAC standard.
Also moving on was Valerie Fischer in the 400 (58.23), who finished fifth in the qualifying round.
Bucknell also picked up three points in the 4x800 in taking sixth.
Bucknell will resume competition at the Patriot League Championships on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. The meet will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
