SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With three singles wins and another solid showing in doubles play, the Bucknell women's tennis team collected a 4-3 win over Morgan State at the Central PA Tennis Center Friday night. It was the fifth win in a row for the Bison, who now stand at 6-2 overall this spring.
Bucknell sophomore Daniela Bellini won her fifth consecutive singles match and remained undefeated this spring by winning 6-2, 7-6 (1) over Morgan State junior Asmara Rose at number one. Bellini's efforts were followed up with wins by Sofia Ayuso in number three singles and Rachel Carroll in number six.
Ayuso won a swift 6-0, 6-0 match over freshman Ana Lei-Kalawe to improve to 5-2. Later, Carroll evened her spring record at 3-3 by defeating freshman Guntra Upeniece 6-3, 6-4. Paige Leavy, who was playing at number two singles today, put in a strong effort against reigning MEAC Player of the Week Averiana Mitchell, but fell 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Bison lost in number one doubles, but the two and three tandems did their part to win the point for Bucknell. Jill Auteri and Ayuso were victorious with a 6-3 decision in the second spot for their first win together this spring, and Chloe Zilkha and Carroll grabbed their first doubles win together as well with a 6-3 score at number three.
