SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team finished the weekend off 2-0 by defeating the Marist Red Foxes 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center. It was the fourth consecutive win for the Bison, who haven't lost a match since Feb. 2.
Bucknell won three singles matches, including the top two, and claimed the doubles point to edge the Red Foxes.
"It was a solid match. We had a lot of good energy and we're very happy with the day," said head coach Tammy Cecchini.
Sophomore Daniela Bellini improved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Marist junior Sophia Chavarria. Bellini was playing in the number two spot today, while freshman Dax Seidlin put in a winning effort in number one singles. Seidlin posted a clean 6-4, 6-4 decision over junior Julia Gabay to improve to 5-2.
Also collecting a singles win was Sofia Ayuso in the number four spot. The junior won 6-3, 6-4 over Sam Galu and is now 4-2 this spring. While coming up short, Jill Auteri and Paige Leavy both fought to three-set losses.
Each of Bucknell's top two doubles tandems won for a second time on the weekend. Leavy and Seidlin remain undefeated at 7-0 after winning 6-4 in the one spot, and Bellini and Ayuso won 6-0 at number two.
The Bison remain at home next weekend to host both Morgan State and Binghamton. The weekend begins with a 7:30 p.m. match against the Bears on Friday, Feb. 28.
