Men's Tennis Falls to Marist and Penn State to Conclude Weekend

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis fell to 4-5 on Sunday with losses at home vs. Marist and on the road at Penn State. The Sunday matches wrapped up a 2-2 weekend for the Bison, who defeated La Salle on Friday and Connecticut on Saturday.
Bucknell plays just one match next weekend when it hosts Saint Joseph's at the Central PA Tennis Center at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29. The Bison defeated the Hawks 4-2 last spring.
Bucknell 1, Marist 4
Bucknell showed fight in the early match on Sunday, winning one doubles match and the top singles match. The Bison also went three sets in a pair of losses, and two of the singles rounds went unfinished.
Marwan Abaza improved to 9-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marist senior Lars Schouten in number one singles. Bucknell also won the top doubles match, where Michael Owen and Cooper Bradshaw moved to 7-1 on the season with a 6-2 victory.
Both Ryan Jurist and Bradshaw went three sets in losing efforts, and Guillermo Torres was working on his third set in number six singles before the match went unfinished.
Bucknell 0, Penn State 7
Bucknell hit the road to University Park to face Penn State in its second match of the day. Bucknell failed to score a point, but a pair of Bison forced third sets, and Bradshaw and Owen were knotted up at 4-4 in doubles before the match was ended.
Both Bradshaw and Owen won their first sets in singles, but ultimately lost their respective points.The Bison are now 3-2 in their previous five dual matches.
