About the Bison
- Bucknell returns to action after a 1-3 start, with all four games decided by three runs or less.
- The Bison will take on an ACC school for the third straight year in Virginia, after playing NC State and Pittsburgh last season, and Duke the year before. The Bison are 0-7 in their last seven meetings against ACC opposition.
- Bucknell has defeated Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Maryland, and Florida State in its history from the ACC, with the most recent win coming against the Demon Deacons in a 16-12 slugfest on Feb. 14, 2015.
- One of Bucknell's greatest wins in program history came against an ACC Institution, when the Bison blanked No. 4 National Seed Florida State, 7-0, in its first game in the NCAA Regional on May 30, 2008.
- Head Coach Scott Heather needs just eight wins to reach 150 for his career after Bucknell's 5-4 victory over Monmouth on Saturday.
- JohnPaul Bell has fared well against ACC opponents in the past three seasons, going 9-for 29 (.310) with eight RBIs, including a 3-for-5, five-RBI effort against NC State last year in Raleigh.
- Evan Madigan began his senior season on a strong note, hitting .400 (6-for-15) over the weekend with a double and three RBIs. The Point Pleasant, N.J. native picked up where he left off to end the 2019 season where he accrued multiple hits in three of Bucknell's last eight games, including a three-RBI, two-hit showing in a win over La Salle at Depew Field.
- Freshman Eunsang Yu picked up four hits over the weekend, including a big RBI single that tied the game at two in the third inning against Penn State. The native of Seattle then helped Bucknell gain a 3-0 lead against Monmouth with a two-out, two-RBI single in the first inning that scored Chris Cannizzaro and Peter Marren. Yu has started all four games at third base for Bucknell, and produced a hit in all four of those contests.
- Cannizzaro also had a productive weekend for the Bison in which he tallied five RBIs. The sophomore from Staten Island, N.Y. had two RBIs against Penn State, as well as an RBI double against Monmouth in game one. Cannizzaro concluded the weekend with a sac fly to score JohnPaul Bell in the first inning against NJIT.
- Six Bison freshmen made their collegiate debuts over the weekend in addition to Yu in Chris Difiore, Anthony Casciola, Tyler Rigot, Will Greer, Kyle Lyons, and Jake Wortman.
- Difiore earned his first career save after entering with one out in the seventh with Bucknell up two, helping Bucknell hang on to a 5-4 victory with a 3-1 putout and a fielder's choice to end the inning.
- Greer earned his first career win against the Hawks after pitching 2.2 innings with two earned and three strikeouts, while Wortman provided a multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 effort and a run scored in Bucknell's win.
- Rigot had a solid collegiate debut against NJIT, going five innings while allowing four hits and five strikeouts with one earned run.
- Bucknell rallied to tie in two of their three defeats over the weekend in tying the game in the third against Penn State, before using a three-run eighth to send the game into extra innings against NJIT, capped off by a two-RBI double by Madigan.
- Bucknell and Virginia have met 22 times, with the Cavaliers taking 21 of those matchups.
- Bucknell's lone win in the series came in the series opener between the two in 1925 under Head Coach H.E. McCormick.
- The two teams last met in 2014 in the NCAA Regional in one of Bucknell's finest seasons in program history under Heather. The Bison earned a Patriot League Tournament Championship and a 31-21-1 record during that season.
- The host Cavaliers took the opening game against Bucknell, 10-1, before eventually reaching the College World Series Final. Heather also faced Virginia in 2013 in his first full season in charge, falling to the 19th-ranked Cavaliers 12-4 and 9-1 in Charlottesville.
- Bucknell's last four-game series against Virginia came in 2009, where the Cavaliers dominated the series by a combined score of 36-2.
