Men's Tennis Heads to NJIT for Second Weekend of Spring Competition

About the Bison
• Bucknell enters its second weekend of spring tennis with a trip to Newark, N.J. to take part in the NJIT Spring Tournament. It's the third straight season the Bison have attended the Invite.
• The NJIT tournament will be a round-robin style tournament with three rounds of both singles and doubles.

• Bucknell began the season with a pair of losses to two tough opponents in Fordham and Delaware. The Bison fell 6-1 to the Rams on Sunday, then fell 4-0 to the Blue Hens.
• Junior Marwan Abaza collected his first singles win of the spring against Fordham. Abaza also forced a third set against James Wilkinson of Delaware before the match went unfinished. The sophomore, who transferred from Florida Atlantic last year, went 9-8 in singles play last spring.
• Sophomore Ryan Jurist and freshman Michael Owen were also winning in their respective sets against Delaware, but each lost in their spring openers against Fordham on Sunday.
• Frehsman Chunyu Chen was a winner in doubles against Fordham. Playing alongside Abaza, the duo defeated the Rams' top doubles tandem 6-4.
• Sophomore Cooper Bradshaw picked up a doubles victory playing with Owen on Monday, defeating their Delaware opponents 6-3.
• Freshmen Per Astrom and Guillermo Torres will also be making the trip after falling to 0-2 in singles last weekend.
Scouting NJIT
• NJIT has yet to compete this spring and will see its first action of the year at the tournament this weekend.
• The Highlanders went 4-15 last year, picking up wins against Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, Fairfield, and Marist.
Scouting Fairfield
• Fairfield is also competing for the first time this weekend.
• The Stags went 6-16 last spring and 3-3 within the MAAC.
• The Stags won three dual matches in the fall, including wins over Rider, Hofstra, and Sacred Heart.
Scouting Hofstra
• Hofstra begins its spring campaign at the NJIT tournament this weekend.
• Hofstra compiled a 13-8 record last spring, including a 4-3 victory over the Bison.
Up Next
• Bucknell returns to Williamsport, Pa. for a home match against Siena at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. The Bison defeated Siena 4-3 on the road last February.
