PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 16 Bucknell University men's water polo team continued its strong start to the season after a 17-9 win over host Brown on Sunday morning at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Bison then followed up that win with a 13-10 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn, which was receiving votes in the preseason CWPA poll.
The 4-0 start is the second consecutive season that the Bison have started the first four games unbeaten.
Bucknell used a late surge to pull away from the Bears in the fourth period after an 8-5 halftime lead. Bucknell scored five goals while limiting the Bears to just one en route to its sixth consecutive win over Brown.
After falling behind twice in the first period, senior Rade Joksimovic found the back of the cage twice in response before a goal from Jared Stanley gave the Bison the lead, 3-2, after one. After Brown equalized to open the second period, the Bison used three straight goals, two from Schofield and one from Joksimovic, to restore a three-goal advantage and some breathing room. The Bison kept the three-goal advantage heading into the half with an 8-5 lead.
In the third, Brown pulled within 9-8 on a goal by Nick Berry, but Bucknell once again responded with a 3-0 run to end the quarter, led by goals from Jared Stanley, Matt Blackwell, and Schofield. That run continued into the fourth, when Cullen Jacuzzi, Joksimovic, and Andu Vlasceanu each scored to give the Bison a seven- goal advantage, 15-8, which Bucknell rode out to a 17-9 final.
Bucknell has managed 15 or more goals in each of their first three games this season. The 52 total goals through the first three games are the most by a Bison team since the 2011 season in which it found the back of the cage 55 times through the first three fixtures.
Joksimovic netted seven times for the Bison for 15 goals in his last two games. Vlasceanu added three goals and two assists, while Schofield found the back of the net three times. Schofield also drew a game-high six ejections. Jack Otto and Adrien Touzot split time in the cage, combining to make ten saves.

Bucknell eventually tied things up on a goal by Jacuzzi about halfway through the second that was assisted by Vlasceanu.
