PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 14 Bucknell University men's water polo team suffered its first loss of the season, 14-7, against No. 9 UC San Diego in the first game of the Princeton Invite on Saturday morning. The Bison then went on to earn a big road win against No. 12 and host Princeton in the nightcap to go 1-1 on the day.
Bucknell now stands at 4-1 on the season.
Bucknell held close in the first period, but the Tritons used a 6-1 run in the second period and never looked back as they grinded out the 14-7 win.
The Tritons took an early lead in the game on a goal by Karlo Krmek, but the goal was answered just seconds later by senior Logan Schofield, who scored an unassisted, even-strength tally to tie things at one. A goal by Jack Lewis, making his season debut for the Orange and Blue, answered the Tritons second goal to tie things up at two. However, the Tritons entered the second period with some momentum after a goal by Calder Hilde-Jones gave UCSD the 3-2 lead.
Bucknell pulled within one in the second, 4-3, on a goal by Andu Vlasceanu, the reigning MAWPC Rookie of the Week, that was assisted by Matt Blackwell. However, the Tritons scored five straight to end the period and take a 9-3 lead, stifling the Bison offense in the second period in a 14-7 win.
Lewis tied for the team lead in goals with two, along with Vlasceanu and Rade Joksimovic. Jack Otto and Adrien Touzot split time in the cage, combining for nine saves. Schofield scored the other Bison goal, while adding four ejections drawn.
Joksimovic, who notched three steals in the win, broke Jay Danforth's all-time steals record in the process, as he now has 256 steals for his career in the Orange and Blue. The milestone comes just a week after Joksimovic became the second Bison player to eclipsed 400 goals for Bucknell.

Game Two: No. 14 Bucknell 11, No. 12 Princeton 8
Bucknell used a 3-0 run in the fourth quarter to distance itself from Princeton in a narrow 11-8 win, just its second win in the last ten games against the Tigers.
Joksimovic was active early, scoring two of his four goals in the first period as Bucknell took a 2-1 lead after one period. After Princeton evened things up in the second at two, Joksimovic scored twice more to help Bucknell retake the lead, 2-1. However, Princeton closed the half on a 3-1 run, with Jack Lewis scoring once to help stop the run as the two teams went in at the half tied at 5.
In the third period the two teams battled evenly, each finding the back of the cage three times as they headed into the final period tied at eight.
Bucknell then took over defensively to help seal the win. The Bison shut out the Tigers in the period, thanks in large part to a field block by Cooper Dolan and several saves by goalkeeper Jack Otto. Two quick goals by Dolan to start the period capped off by a tally from Vlasceanu helped a 3-0 run as Bucknell improve to 5-1 this season with wins over three ranked opponents already.
Joksimovic finished with four goals while Vlasceanu and Dolan each added two goals. Joksimovic also drew three ejections. Otto made six saves in the win.
