PRINCETON, N.J.-- The No. 14 Bucknell University men's water polo team closed the Princeton Invite on a high note after defeating No. 19 Brown, 11-6. Jack Lewis and Rade Joksimovic combined for three goals, while Cooper Dolan continued his strong play in the tournament with two goals and three assists.Â
Bucknell is off to a 6-1 start this season after the win, with five of those victories coming against opponents either ranked or receiving votes.Â
The two teams kept things close in the first half, with Bucknell holding onto a slim 4-3 lead entering halftime. Two goals from Dolan and tallies from Lewis and Joksimovic led the way for Bucknell in the opening two periods.Â
Bucknell used a strong third period, outscoring the Bears 4-1, to gain some breathing room. Andu Vlasceanu started the period with a goal assisted by Dolan, before Brown responded on a goal by James Thygesen. Bucknell then rattled off three straight goals, led by two from Joksimovic and one from Vlasceanu, to close the frame. Â
Three more goals in the fourth, two of those by Lewis, helped Bucknell defeat Brown for the second consecutive week and improve to 6-1 on the year. The Bison have been known to get off to quick starts, as the team got out of the gate with an 8-1 mark last season and an 11-1 record in 2016.Â
Jack Otto played the full 32 minutes for the Bison in the cage, notching 14 saves and a .700 save percentage. Bucknell's 11 goals came from
five different players.Â
Bucknell will now look ahead to the Bucknell Invite next weekend in Lewisburg, where it will host three MAWPC matches beginning with a Saturday contest against Fordham.Â
