LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bucknell men's cross country team took third in a 32-team field at the Lock Haven Invitational, held Saturday at West Branch Cross Country Course.
"I thought our men ran great, and it was an opportunity to show what kind of depth we have," said head coach Kevin Donner. "In theory, we held out our top 11, but some of the guys who raced today are getting ready to make some of the better meets. Gardner and Littman ran very good races, and maintained their positioning throughout. Some of our other guys may have been out too fast too early, but they did a good job maintaining focus, like Ryan Miele and Noah Martin."
The Bison, who totaled 140 points, placed four runners in the top 40 in a field of 373. Junior Riley Gardner led the charge, completing the 8K course in 25:52.5 to finish 13th.
Junior Ben Littman joined Gardner in the top 20, posting a time of 25:57.9 to take 18th. Sophomore Ryan Miele (25th, 26:09.7) and freshman Noah Martin (38th, 26.29.2) also cracked the top 40.
Other Bison who finished in the top 100 included seniors James Weissenborn (51st, 26:38.3), Matthew Vira (55th, 26:46.3) and Terryl Ferrell (60th, 26:51.6) and sophomores Quenton Long (73rd, 27:01.3), Thomas Matsumura (75th, 27:03.4) and Matt Cervon (87th, 27:10.9).
Host Lock Haven won the team title, placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 35 to accumulate 81 points. It was the largest meet ever hosted by the Eagles.
Bucknell returns to action on Friday, Sept. 27 by racing at the University of Virginia's Panorama Farms Invite.
