LEWISBURG, Pa. -- When the world's best golfers aged 50 and older tee off on Thursday morning at the 74th United States Senior Open Championship at The Warren Golf Club in South Bend, Ind., a former Bucknell player will be in the field. Scott Paris, Class of 1989, made it all the way through qualifying and will make his U.S. Senior Open debut this week. He will start on the 10th hole at 9:36 a.m., in a group with Jesus Rivas and Robin Bradbury. Television coverage will be on FS1.
Paris, who is Chief Operating Officer and Director of Golf at Plainfield Country Club and is a member (and former president) of the New Jersey Section of the PGA, was one of four players to make it through from the Bonnie Briar CC sectional qualifier in Larchmont, N.Y., on May 21. Boosted by four straight birdies on the back nine, Paris posted a 1-over-par 72 to finish in third place at the qualifier. One spot ahead was Thomas Levet, a six-time winner on the European Tour who is also a Ryder Cup champion and the runner-up at the 2002 British Open after Ernie Els prevailed in a four-man playoff.
At Bucknell, Paris played on the golf team under Hall-of-Fame coach Tommy Thompson. Paris was in the Bison lineup for the East Coast Conference Championship in both 1988 and 1989. He helped the squad to a pair of third-place finishes and placed as high as T-7th as a junior in 1988 at Saucon Valley CC.
