LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the second year in a row, Bucknell senior Connor O'Brien was selected to the Academic All-Patriot League Men's Golf Team on Thursday. O'Brien, an accounting and financial management major from Rowayton, Conn., was one of five student-athletes selected from the eight schools that sponsor men's golf in the Patriot League.
O'Brien provided a neat storyline for the Bison at last weekend's Patriot League Championship. A regular in the lineup since the start of his career four years ago, O'Brien's spring 2019 season was in jeopardy due to a leg injury. But he worked hard to get back on the course for the conference championship at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Club, and despite cold and wet weather, O'Brien gutted out 54 holes and posted scores of 77-71-73 to finish in a tie for 13th place out of 48 competitors. He missed a top-10 finish and an All-Patriot League medal by one stroke.
O'Brien, who was an All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League honoree as a junior, posted a 73.8 scoring average for the 2018-19 season. He had a team-best 73.1 mark in the fall season, which included a tie for first-place finish at the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge in Vermont.
Away from the golf course, O'Brien carries a 3.68 cumulative grade-point average in the Freeman College of Management. He is a Srixon-Cleveland All-America Scholar and a participant in the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute. He interned with Merrill Lynch last summer and also served as a teaching assistant for a real estate class at Bucknell.
The Bison men's golf team was in contention throughout much of the 2019 Patriot League Championship and ended up in fourth place.
O'Brien was joined on the Academic All-Patriot League Team by Army's Nick Turner, Lafayette's Cole Berger, Lehigh's Owen Quinn, and Loyola's Erick Alonso. Turner was selected as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
