The Leopards raced to a 6-0 lead after a hit by pitch, an error on a sac bunt attempt, and a walk loaded the bases with no outs.
A sac fly and two consecutive errors by the Bison spotted Lafayette three runs.
After a strikeout brought the Leopards to two outs, another throwing error from the Bison allowed another run to score before Lafayette used a two-RBI single to top off a 6-0 lead in the first.Overall, Bucknell committed four errors in the inning, and all six runs were unearned. The six runs by Lafayette came on just two hits.
Bucknell showed resiliency in the top of the third, loading the bases with two outs on singles by Caleb Broughton and Jared Drizin, and a costly error by the Leopards that should have ended the inning that allowed Wincig to reach.
JohnPaull Bell was then hit by a pitch to score Drizin from third for Bucknell's first run of the inning.
Dominic Toso then provided a big bases-clearing double down the right field line in the inning to add three more runs and cut the Lafayette lead to 6-4.All of the first ten runs in the game by either team were unearned.
Wincig pulled Bucknell within one on a homer to left center on the first pitch he saw in the inning to make the score 6-5 in the top of the fifth.
After the early inning struggles for the Bison, starting pitcher Jeff Gottesman worked himself into the game, keeping Lafayette off of the board and scattering four hits after the first inning before being replaced by Nicholas Sadd in the seventh.
The Leopards managed to score four runs in the seventh, with the first coming on a wild pitch. An RBI single and a two-RBI double with two outs helped Lafayette gain some breathing room with a 10-5 lead.
Bucknell couldn't complete the comeback as it dropped Sunday's series finale.Gottesman (3-6) took the loss for the Bison on the mound.Brett Kreyer went the distance for the Leopards to improve to 2-3 this year.
