CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Bucknell University women's water polo team took two important wins on Saturday as CWPA play heats up for the final few weeks of the season.
Game One: Bucknell 8, Brown 4
The Bison used a solid defensive effort in this one, limiting the Bears to just a .190 shooting percentage en route to an 8-4 win in the first game of the day.
After Brown took a 1-0 lead, Nina Benson responded off of an assist by Paige Furano with a goal shortly afterwards to even things up at one.
Bucknell carried a 3-2 lead after one period. After Brown tied things up late in the second period, Ally Furano found the back of the cage on an assist by Rachel Craig to give Bucknell a 4-3 lead entering halftime.
Bucknell was staunch defensively in the third period, shutting out the Bears in the session before Benson found the back of the cage for a second time to double Bucknell's lead at 5-3 entering the final period.
The Bison continued their run in the fourth, scoring two more unanswered goals to lead 7-3 before Brown finally found an answer with just a few minutes to go in the fourth. A. Furano found the cage with an insurance goal with just over a minute to go to help seal a Bucknell win, 8-4.
