WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team ended its season with a 15-5 loss to Army West Point on Thursday night at Michie Stadium.
The Black Knights (13-4, 6-3 Patriot League) outscored the Bison (4-13, 2-7 Patriot League) by a 12-2 margin in the first half en route to their Senior Night victory. Three Cadets netted at least a hat trick, with Jackie Brattan registering four goals. Brattan also tied Samantha Stewart for the game lead with six draw controls.
For Bucknell, Julia Bradbury and Tegan Warren scored two goals apiece. Callie DeWitt logged a game-best five ground balls while tying Meredith Murphy for the team lead with two caused turnovers.
DeWitt entered the game needing five ground balls to match the Bison's single-season record. With 49 ground balls, she equaled Amy Hasler's school standard set during the 2002 campaign. With her two caused turnovers, she finished the season with 38, good for second in school history. Her career total of 77 caused turnovers slotted her in a tie for fifth all time.
Four-year starter Jamisen DeWitt made eight saves in her final collegiate game. She will graduate ranked sixth in Bucknell's history with 586 career stops; she also holds the Bison's career record with 166 ground balls, 16 more than Hasler's previous standard.
Army West Point held advantages in shots (33-20), shots on goal (23-15) and draw controls (17-5). Bucknell led, 23-19, in ground balls, in large part due to C. DeWitt's efforts.
The Bison were eliminated from Patriot League Tournament contention with their loss to the Black Knights, who clinched the third seed with their win and Boston University's loss to Navy. Highlights of Bucknell's 2019 campaign included overtime victories over UMBC and rival Lafayette and its third shutout in program history over Howard.
