Gannon posted a career-high four RBIs in the win, while Madigan also added three RBIs as Bucknell received seven RBIs from the seven and eighth hitters in the order. Overall, Bucknell's 7-8-9 hitters of Gannon, Madigan, and Jared Drizin combined to go 11-for-15 on the day.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning on a sac fly to center field from Ben Faso, JohnPaul Bell provided a deep sac fly to center that scored Luke Hartman, who doubled earlier, in the third inning as Bucknell tied the game at one.
La Salle took a 3-1 lead in the fourth after a double down the left field line scored Tatem Levins, before a sac fly by Ryan Guckin provided the third run for the Explorers.
La Salle extended its lead to 5-1 in the fifth on a two-run double by Kevin McGowan.
The Bison clawed their way back into game when Tyler Wincig, and Peter Marren posted singles to put runners on first and second. Freshman Will Gannon, in just his ninth start of the season and first since March 24, cleared the bases with a stinging triple that bounced off of the right field wall and scored both runners to bring Bucknell within four. Evan Madigan then scored Gannon from third on an RBI single to cut the Bucknell deficit to 5-4.
The seventh inning proved big for both teams, with La Salle adding two insurance runs in the frame on a two-RBI double by Faso.
The Bison struck back with five runs in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases. Dominic Toso reached on a throwing error by the Explorers, a JohnPaul Bell double, and a Tyler Wincig walk brought the bags full with one gone in the inning.
Marren drew a full-count walk for the first run, before Gannon squeezed a single through the right side on a nice piece of hitting that scored Wincig and Bell. Madigan capped the inning with the go-ahead two-run double to score Gannon and Marren and give the Bison a 9-7 lead it never relinquished.
The Bison held on in the eighth and ninth as Matt Shobe came in and retired three of the first four batters he faced, before Hunter Robichaux earned his third save of the season in the ninth.
Faso, the tying run, was at the plate with two outs, but Robichaux induced a groundout to end the inning and give the Bison their 11th win of the season.
The Bison mustered 15 hits, the second-highest total by the team in 2019. Andrew Funovits earned his first career win after pitching the sixth and seventh inning.
Dominic Toso, Marren, Wincig, Gannon, Madigan, and Drizin each posted multiple hit games. Marren posted two hits for the second time in the past four games.
The Bison return to action with four games at Depew Field this weekend to close the regular season. Saturday will be senior day before game one against Lafayette. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
