O'Brien Named Bison Athlete of the Week After Breaking School High Jump Record

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Freshman Taylor O'Brien was named the Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday after breaking Bucknell's outdoor high jump record Saturday in just her second career collegiate meet.
O'Brien cleared 5-7.25 at the Bucknell Team Challenge, besting Bucknell's previous record of 5-7 that was held by Amy Mantush and Lauren Hudson. Her height was more than four inches better than any other jumper on Saturday,
O'Brien's jump is the best in the Patriot League this season, while her teammate, Alexandra Butz, has the second-best jump (5-5.25). O'Brien cleared that height last week at the Bison Outdoor Classic while competing for the first time at Bucknell.
The Bison won the Bucknell Team Challenge by more than 200 points. O'Brien was one of seven event winners for the team champions.
Bucknell will send a group of athletes to the Penn Relays, which begin on Thursday and run through Sunday. Others will compete at the Bloomsburg Invitational on Saturday.
Those are the final meets before the Bison turn their attention to the Patriot League Championships at Holy Cross on May 3-4.
