Bucknell Fours Claim Victories to Highlight Strong Day at Cherry Hill Invitational

RESULTS
CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- Victories in both fours events highlighted a strong day for the Bucknell rowing team at the Cherry Hill Invitational on the Cooper River. The Bison varsity four qualified first in its heat, and then came back in the Grand Final and bested Rhode Island, George Washington, Jacksonville, Georgetown and Saint Joseph's.
The foursome of Emma James, Olivia Smith, Ally Demas, Caitlin Cobb along with coxswain Claire Gilman posted a winning time of 7:58.65, which was nearly 19 seconds faster than their preliminary time and more than 11 seconds faster than runner-up Rhode Island.
The 2V4+, comprised of Meghan Comstock, Olivia Zavrel, Nevia Selmon, Erin Rigney and coxswain Colleen Hull, clocked a time of 8:14.62 to outdistance second-place Connecticut by just under nine seconds. Rhode Island, Jacksonville, Connecticut's 3V4 and Old Dominion rounded out the Grand Final.
The Bison also entered three eights, all of which qualified for Grand Finals. The varsity eight finished fourth in a time of 7:04.58. Bucknell placed behind Rhode Island, Columbia and Georgetown, and ahead of Marist and MIT in the final race. The Bison boat took second in its morning heat in 7:00.89.
The second varsity eight was also second in the prelims behind UConn, and the Bison returned to finish fifth in the Grand Final in 7:24.52. Columbia took first place.
Bucknell also sent out a freshman eight, which placed fifth behind UConn, George Washington, and two Delaware boats.
The Bison will celebrate Senior Day next Saturday morning and then host Villanova for a scrimmage on Sunday at 8 a.m. on the Susquehanna River.
