About the Bison
- Bucknell enters the Patriot League Championship with some positive vibes after winning the Hartford Hawks Invitational last weekend in Connecticut. It was a small field, but the Bison played some good golf, particularly in the second round when they posted a 306 team score, equaling the best of the spring.
- Meredith Langs was the medalist at Hartford after posting 150 (77-73) over 36 holes to win by one stroke. Casey Morrow (3rd, 78-75), Katie Childers (5th, 79-81), Erin Holmes (T-7th, 85-77), Sun Woo Jeon (T-7th, 80-82) and Sally Sohn (T-7th, 79-83) all finished in the top seven.
- Head coach Lisa Francisco will send out Childers, Langs, Morrow, Holmes, Sohn and Jeon at the Patriot League Championship. Unlike most regular-season tournaments, which utilize a play-5/count-4 scoring format, the conference championship allows for a sixth player, with the top four scores counting toward the team total.
- Childers boasts a team-best scoring average of 77.3 for the spring and 76.6 overall. Langs (77.4), Morrow (79.6) and Holmes (79.7) also have sub-80 spring averages.
- The Bison are coming off a tremendous fall season in which they competed in five tournaments and set a school record with a 310.1 team scoring average. The previous mark was 312.0 by the 2011-12 squad. For the full 2018-19 season, Bucknell has a 313.5 team average.
- Also setting a fall scoring record was Childers with a 76.1 average in 15 rounds. The senior bettered the record of 76.8, set last season by former teammate Lindsay Dodovich.
- Along with Childers, Morrow (76.7), Holmes (78.7), Sohn (79.5) and Langs (79.9) gave Bucknell five players with fall averages in the 70s for the first time in team history.
- The Patriot League began sponsoring women's golf in 2013, and this will be the seventh Patriot League Women's Golf Championship.
- Bucknell won the second edition in 2014, posting 930 (313-306-311) at Saucon Valley Country Club.
- Lehigh, Bucknell, Boston University and Richmond accounted for four different champions in the first four years of the championship, and then Richmond repeated in both 2017 and 2018.
- The Spiders, who are an associate member of the Patriot League in the sport of women's golf, are hosting the championship for the first time. This will not be Bucknell's first appearance at Independence Golf Club, however. The Bison played at the Richmond Spider Invitational four times from 2006-09, and the last three of those events were played at Independence. Bucknell's best team score there was a 316 in 2008.
- Bucknell has produced at least one All-Patriot League performer in each year of league play, including Katie Childers a year ago. Childers finished in fifth place with rounds of 79-75-82, helping the Bison to a fourth-place standing.
- Bucknell's best individual finish in a Patriot League Championship was Bridget Wilcox's runner-up placement in the inaugural event in 2013. Other top-five finishes include Lauren Bernard (3rd, 2014), Wilcox (4th, 2014), Kasha Scott (T-5th, 2014), Emily Larson (T-4th, 2016), and Childers (5th, 2018).
- The low PLC round by a Bucknell players is a 73, accomplished four times, most recently by Larson and Lindsay Dodovich in the final round of the 2016 championship at Bucknell GC.
