LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 18 Bucknell University women's water polo team fell in the regular season finale on Sunday afternoon to No. 15 Princeton, 10-5.
After a narrow 5-3 game at halftime, the Tigers outscored the Bison 5-2 in the second half to pull away and take a 10-5 win overall.
The Tigers scored the opening goal just a minute in, before Kali Hyham responded at the 2:20 mark, muscling her way in between several Tiger defenders to score from about 3 meters out in the upper right corner.
Nina Benson then scored a minute later to give Bucknell its first lead of the day on an assist by Ally Furano, although the lead was short-lived as Princeton scored just over 20 seconds later on a goal by Jamie Kim.
The second period started favorably for the Bison, as Emily Konishi scored on a nice feed from freshman Paige Furano to give Bucknell a 3-2 advantage 30 seconds into the second period of play.
The turning point of the game came when Princeton scored three unanswered goals to end the half, including a goal with just 23 seconds left to take a 5-3 lead entering the break.
The momentum carried over into the third period for the Tigers, who took a 6-3 lead at the 6:32 mark of the third period.
Bucknell pulled back within two when Konishi scored her second of the day on an assist by Sarah Mooney as the two seniors linked up in their last appearance at Kinney Natatorium.
That was the closest the Bison would get in the game however, as Princeton scored twice just under a minute apart to take an 8-4 lead and eventually secure a 10-5 win.
Konishi scored twice in her final game in Lewisburg, while fellow senior Mooney added two assists. Kali Hyham posted two goals for Bucknell, while Benson provided the other tally for the Orange and Blue. P. Furano and A. Furano each tallied an assist.
