
No. 21 Women's Water Polo Moves on After Defeating George Washington

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The No. 21 Bucknell University women's water polo team earned a first round win in postseason play for the first time since 2015 as it took down George Washington, 12-7 in first round action at the Eastern Championships on Friday afternoon.Â

The Bison (24-11) will take on Princeton in the tournament's second round on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Kali Hyham got the Bison off to a good start with an unassisted goal from close range just 30 seconds into the game.Ally Furano then doubled the lead after converting a penalty shot on an exclusion that she drew herself at the 5:46 mark of the first period.

The game remained close in the first period, with Bucknell clinging onto a 4-3 lead after GW tied the game 2-2 then eventually at 3-3 before A. Furano scored the go-ahead goal with one minute left in the first period.Bucknell then scored two more unanswered goals, both by A. Furano, to take a 6-3 lead and eventually take a 7-4 lead at the break behind five goals from A. Furano.

GW scored the opening goal of the third period, but Larissa Hodzic battled through tough defending in the center to score Bucknell's eighth goal that spurred a 3-0 run to end the third and give Bucknell a 10-5 that the Bison eventually turned into a 12-7 win.

A. Furano notched an eight-point day, while Nina Benson posted five points on two goals and three assists.Georgia Lewis made seven saves in the cage for the Bison, who will turn their attention to No. 15 Princeton on Saturday.Emily Konishi tied her season-high with seven steals.
