About the Bison
- Bucknell continues a busy spring slate on Saturday at the one-day, 36-hole Yale Spring Invitational. This is a rare play-six, count-five format, and the Bison will send out J.P. Raftery, Carter Cook, Jason Lohwater, Jubal Early, Chris Tanabe and Peter Bradbeer.
- After finishing third out of 20 teams at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago, the Bison slipped to 17 of 20 this past Monday and Tuesday at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational. Bucknell did not play poorly at White Manor, posting rounds of 294-296 (the same scores as the previous week at Steel Club), but the conditions were more favorable and there were a number of low scores across the field. Lohwater was the low Bison with rounds of 72-73 for a 3-over 145, which put him in a tie for 33rd place.
- Tanabe shot 77-73 at the Wildcat Invitational, on the heels of his first career victory the previous week at Lafayette's tournament. Tanabe earned Patriot League Golfer of the Week honors after the win.
- Raftery owns the team's best scoring average with a 74.7 in the spring and 73.8 over the full season.
Bucknell at the Yale Spring Invitational
- Bucknell is appearing in Yale's spring tournament for the fourth straight year. The Bison won the event in 2016 with rounds of 295-300. A year later, similar scores of 297-301 were good for seventh place, and last season the Bison finished eighth with rounds of 303-298. Bradbeer shot 149 (76-73) over 36 holes to lead Bucknell here last year. Raftery bounced back from an opening-round 79 with a terrific 71 in the afternoon.
- The Bison have also played at Yale in a number of fall competitions through the years, including the MacDonald Cup this past fall. Bucknell finished in ninth place at that event with scores of 280-293-302. Bradbeer and Tanabe were the low Bison for the weekend with 218 totals over 54 holes, putting them in a tie for 26th place.
- Last year, Tennessee won the team title with a 565 total (283-282), 11 shots better than host Yale. Virginia was third at 587, followed by Cornell (591) and Penn (593).
Next Up
- Bucknell will next appear on Apr. 20-21 at the Robert Trent Jones Shootout at Colgate's Seven Oaks GC in Hamilton, N.Y. That will be a tuneup for the Patriot League Championship, which will be back at Seven Oaks the following weekend.
