Men's Tennis Tops Lafayette 4-1 for 4th Win in Last 5 Outings

EASTON, Pa. -- Ethan Jacobs, Marwan Abaza and Cooper Bradshaw all won in both singles and doubles late Tuesday night to help the Bucknell men's tennis team to a 4-1 victory over Lafayette in a twice-delayed Patriot League match at Northwood Racquet Club. The contest was originally scheduled to be played on Lafayette's campus, but late-afternoon storms forced the match to be played indoors.
It was worth the wait for the Bison, who have now won four of their last five matches and five of the last seven to improve to 9-11 overall and 3-2 in Patriot League play.
"It was a really gutsy performance tonight with the long rain delay and playing shorthanded," said head coach Bruce Myers. "We have a short turnaround for the match tomorrow, but we have won five of our last seven matches and appear to be playing our best tennis of the season right now."
Bucknell quickly posted the doubles point, with Abaza and Max McDonald winning 6-0 at No. 1 followed by Jacobs and Bradshaw with a 6-3 verdict at No. 2.
Jacobs and Abaza came right back to post straight-set singles victories, as did Bradshaw. Jacobs defeated William Barry 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to improve to 3-1 in Patriot League duals this season. Bradshaw breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Paul Caruso at No. 5, and Abaza clinched the victory after handling Daniel Kramer 6-0, 6-4 on Court 3.
This was the first of six matches in a seven-day span for the Bison. They are right back in action at home on Wednesday with a non-conference tilt against Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
